and help make a difference!
Please check the activities you may like to do.
- Donate financially to the LDF
and solicit others to donate to the LDF (including "In Honor/Memory
of", and workplace donations, e.g. United Way, Combined
Federal Campaign).
Subscribe to the LDF's scientific
journal (JSTD) or donate subscriptions to other groups.
Provide scientific advice to
the LDF. (Include your area of expertise and a resume.)
Spread the word about the LDF
to local media and post LDF information in your community.
Help out at the LDF's office.
Write letters and make calls
on timely issues.
Call state libraries and confirm
possession of LDF programs.
Share your story with the LDF
for use with media and the legislative process. (Remember to
send the LDF a brief summary of your story).
- Become an LDF Volunteer Leader in the following
ongoing capacity:
Self-Help (S-H)
Group Leader (Complete the Self-Help Group Application)
- Lead
an LDF Self-Help Group.
- Write articles
and letters for the newsletter.
- Develop new
S-H group leaders and help them establish new groups in the same
or other areas.
Community Education Leader
- Present
LDF displays at local programs (e.g. health fairs, classrooms,
community gatherings, etc.).
- Conduct one
LDF community education program in your area each year.
- Participate
in LDF's Speaker Bureau and conduct LD educational speeches on
behalf of the LDF.
- Conduct a
1/2-day medical education program, once a year in your state.
- Volunteer
at LDF events.
- Network with
potential supporters and send contact information to the appropriate
LDF committee.
- Establish
an LD program at your place of employment.
Fundraising Leader
We have very limited seed money! We suggest you start with no-cost
programs such as bake sales, garage sales, employee "dress
down" days, etc. New ideas are welcome.
- Conduct
or assist with a fundraiser. Prior approval is necessary from
the LDF.
- Write letters
to contacts requesting financial or in-kind donations to the
LDF.
- Make fundraising
calls from the LDF office.
- Fundraise
for approved research projects.
Media Leader Volunteer
Include the latest key points and accurate scientific information.
- Agree
to be interviewed by the media. (Write your angle in space provided.
e.g. physician, patient, pet owner, etc.)
- Approach
celebrity friends about assisting the LDF in getting out the
message about LD.
- Write letters
to media regarding LD articles.
- Write articles
for placement in the media (e.g. letters to the editor, straight
stories, articles for the LDF newsletter)
- Clip LD &
related topic articles and send them to the LDF (Note: please
always include publication name and date.)
- Help place
Public Service Announcements in your local media.
- Encourage
the scientific community to speak-out, give interviews.
Scientific Educator (speaker
or writer)
- Give
brief presentations for the LDF at local workplace luncheon programs.
- Speak at
one-day programs to healthcare workers for the LDF.
- Write and
publish articles on scientific topics.
- Submit articles
to the LDF's Journal.
- Speak at
LDF conferences.
Legislative Leader Volunteer

- Contact
state and federal representatives on key issues.
- Attend meetings
in Washington, D.C. with, or on behalf of the LDF.
- Attend governmental
meetings in your state for, or with, the LDF.
