312,241 cases of Lyme disease have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control, 1980 - 2008 (05/10/08). There have been 1,757 cases of Lyme Disease Reported to the Centers for Disease Control for the year 2008 (05/10/08). Remember it is conservatively estimated that only one in 10 cases of Lyme disease is actually reported to the CDC - so there may have been at least as many as 3.12 million cases of Lyme disease since 1980 and 17,570 cases in 2008.

Available here, a sample letter for patients to submit to their doctor to try and protect their medical records from being seized by a government agency outside of a subpoena.
