4. 30 sec. - When You Go Outside

Lyme disease prevention is up to you When you go outside, wear white or light colored clothing so you can see the ticks. Tuck your shirt into your pants and your pants into your socks. And, then have your parents spray you with bug repellants. Last, but not least . . . check yourself for ticks every day. If you find a tick remove it with fine point tweezers. And don't forget to Protect and Check your pets too! For more information, call the Lyme Disease Foundation. . .1-800-886-LYME.

5. 60 sec. - Serious Infection

Lyme disease is a mild to serious bacterial infection that can affect people of any age, color or medical condition. The key to avoiding this disease is prevention. Dress properly, avoid tick infested areas, use tick repellants, and do daily tick checks once inside. If you're bitten by a tick, grasp it near the skin with fine point tweezers and pull the tick straight out. Clean the bite area with antiseptic. Then, save the tick in a pill container in case your doctor wants to test it for Lyme disease. Remember, remove ticks properly and immediately . . . the longer they stay attached the greater your chance of infection. Putting petroleum jelly or nail polish on a tick WILL NOT make it fall off.

By taking these preventative measures, you can still do the things you enjoy and stay healthy. For more information about Lyme disease write to us at the Lyme Disease Foundation, One Financial Plaza, Hartford, CT 06103 or call 1-800-886-L-Y-M-E.

6. 60 sec. - Son & Dad talk about preventing Lyme Disease

Announcer: Here's important information from the Lyme Disease Foundation. (Screen Door Closes)

Son: Dad, now that you're back inside, did you do your tick check?

Dad: Well, no . . .

Son: Well, you should check yourself. We check ourselves at school after soccer. I don't want you to get Lyme disease.

Dad: O.K. smarty, how do I do a tick check?

Son: You look over your clothes for little moving things and then feel over your skin for attached ticks. Turn around and I'll check your back.

Dad: Aren't ticks too small to see?

Son: No, ticks that spread Lyme disease can be small, like a poppy seed, but they can get as big as a raisin. Regular tick checks and proper tick removal can prevent us from getting infected. Aha! Here's a tick.

Dad: Oh, so I bet now I get Lyme disease!

Son: Well, there are different types of ticks. Only some of them spread Lyme disease.

Dad: Just tell me how to get the tick out.

Son: See these fine point tweezers . . . I just put these tight around the tick's mouthparts, where they attach to your back, and gently pull the tick out.

Dad: That's all there is to it?

Son: Almost. We keep the tick in this pill container. You should give Doc Hubbard a call, just in case he wants to test the tick for Lyme disease. Now, we'll clean the bite with alcohol and we're all done.
