Karen Forschner
co-founded the LDF. As a volunteer, she has donated over 30,000
hours to the LDF since 1988. When the foundation was first established,
she was responsible for all aspects of the LDF. As the LDF grew,
and staff was added, her involvement became more specialized.
Forschner is currently responsible for long-range strategic planning
and special projects. In 1993, she testified in Congress on the
impact of LD on families. She was an invited participated in
the 1994 National Institutes of Health Chronic LD Meeting.
Karen was
named "Woman of the Year" in 1992 by Family Circle
magazine, "Woman of Worth" by L'Oreal (1993), "Woman
of Merit" by the Daughters of the American Revolution (1994)
and "Woman of the Year" by the Veterans of Foreign
Wars Ladies Auxiliary (1994). She co-produced the LDF's international
award winning children's TV special - Dr. Ticked-Off Says: DO
A TICK CHECK.
Ms. Forschner's
experience with non-profits includes leadership positions on
the boards of several nonprofits (e.g. Combined Health Appeal
of Connecticut, Society of Insurance Research, Association for
Systems Management, and the Ronald McDonald House). She is a
published author. She has run her own consulting firm and has
held various management/research positions with several insurance
companies. Forschner has a BS from Muskingum College, majoring
in Biology and Psychology and an MBA from the University of Connecticut. |
